Meet Frank Askew, owner and operator of Up-Close Outfitters. Frank has been chasing largemouth and smallmouth bass, trout, marlin, tuna, turkey, and deer most of his life. He grew up fishing both commercially and recreationally while competing in numerous small and big game tournaments. As a result of this lifelong experieince, Frank has developed a keen understanding of the common characteristics that link geography with nature.
Frank went on to graduate from Appalachian State University with degrees in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Community and Regional Planning. While working for an electrical consulting firm, he sharpened his GIS skills mapping vegetation and electrical systems. He now focuses all of his professional skills and attention on the pursuit and mapping of small and large game.
With the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and sub-meter Global Positioning Systems (GPS) he is able to geographically isolate game locations. Whether collecting data on foot or in his 21 foot Champion bass boat he has brought fishing and hunting down to a science. Combining the outdoors with modern mapping leads to a better understanding of natural travel patterns in the outdoors.
