Big game mapping in the National Forest is a project that Up-Close Outfitters has and will spend many years developing. Using the Geographic Information System mapping platform and on the ground Global Positioning Systems we have developed very scientific big game maps. Using sub-meter backpack GPS we have gathered, in the field, data on turkey and deer sign. This could include trails, sighting related to time of day, food availability, natural travel corridors, bedding areas, and many more attributes. When combined with satellite imagery and aerial photography it is possible to bring the area of focus down to a manageable size. These maps bring the natural patterns of deer or turkey together to produce a geographic smart map. This map takes into account all attributes of a game natural habits and spits out a single map showing where the game should be given the time of year or weather conditions. Exclude the areas that are not ideal and find the areas away from the crowd.
